DAY 1  HERVEY BAY – MILES      LD

Saturday, 11th May:  Departing Hervey Bay pick up passengers en-route to Roma Street Transit Centre.  Travel west to Toowoomba for lunch, then continue along the Warrego Highway to Miles where we visit the Miles Historical Village and Museum.  Stay Swagsman Motor Inn      

DAY 2  MILES – CHARLEVILLE      BMLD

Sunday, 12th May:  Continue our travels through Roma where we pause for morning tea.  After a delicious picnic lunch in Morven we make our way to Charleville for a visit to The Bilby Experience before settling into our motel.  After dinner, it’s off to the Cosmos Centre to do a little stargazing.  Stay Mulga Country Motor Inn     

DAY 3  CHARLEVILLE – WINDORAH      BMLD

Monday, 13th May:  Follow the Diamantina Development Road to Quilpie where we stop to do some exploring.  Visit the opal shops and St Finbarr’s Altar.  The altar, lectern and font are beautifully made of opal.  After lunch continue on our way to Windorah.  Stay Western Star Hotel Motel & Cooper’s Cabins.

DAY 4  WINDORAH – BIRDSVILLE      BMLD

Tuesday, 14th May:  Follow the Birdsville Development Road to Betoota where we pause for morning tea, then continue on our way to Birdsville for lunch and a visit to the Wirrarri Visitors Information Centre.  After lunch, it’s off to climb Big Red Sand Dune which stands 40m in height and is the symbolic edge to the Simpson Desert.  Stay Birdsville Hotel     

DAY 5  BIRDSVILLE – BOULIA      BMLD

Wednesday, 15th May:  Departing Birdsville travel through Cuttaburra Crossing, an amazing wetland area, to arrive at Bedourie for lunch.  Moving north of Eyre Creek where the channel country meets the desert, we arrive in Boulia to visit the Min Min Encounter before settling into our accommodation.  Stay Desert Sands Motel       and Australian Hotel.

DAY 6  BOULIA – LONGREACH      BMD

Thursday, 16th May:  This morning travel east via the timeless landscape of the majestic mesas set amongst the open pebble plains to Cawnpore Lookout, a landscape only found in two places on Earth.  Enjoy tea and damper at Middleton Hotel, arriving in Winton to visit the newly re-opened Waltzing Matilda Centre. Continue on to Longreach.  Two night stay Longreach Motor Inn     

DAY 7  LONGREACH SIGHTSEEING      BMLD

Friday, 17th May:  Start our morning with a homemade morning tea and guided tour at Longway Station, then on to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame for the delightful Outback Stockman’s Show followed by lunch and some free time to explore.  Mid-afternoon return to our motel to prepare for our Thomson River cruise aboard the Thomson River Belle.  After viewing the sunset disembark for a delicious camp dinner and entertainment followed by the spectacular Captain Starlight Light and Sound Show.

DAY 8  LONGREACH – EMERALD      BLD

Saturday, 18th May:  Our first stop this morning is the Qantas Founders Museum for a guided Jet Tour followed by some free time to purchase your morning tea and peruse the museum.  Then, it’s off to Barcaldine for a photo stop at the Tree of Knowledge and lunch at the Shakespeare Hotel.  After lunch, continue on our way through Alpha to Emerald.  Stay Emerald Maraboon Motor Inn     

DAY 9  EMERALD – CARNARVON GORGE      BMLD

Sunday, 19th May:  Departing our motel view the Big Easel which is a tribute to Van Gogh`s Sunflowers as a symbol of life and hope.  Continue on our way via Fairbairn Dam to Springsure for morning tea, then on to Carnarvon Gorge for lunch at the lodge.  After settling into your luxurious en-suited tent accommodation, reboard your coach for some afternoon exploring.  Two night stay Carnarvon Wilderness Lodge     

DAY 10  CARNARVON GORGE FREE DAY      BLD

Monday, 20th May:  Without leaving your cosy bed, enjoy the birdcalls or sit and watch the pretty-faced wallabies graze.  The sheer wonder of Carnarvon Gorge radiates from the National Park where, for the ambitious, a day-long trek begins with a track map and packed lunch.  The Gorge has many Aboriginal rock art sites.  In Angiopteris Ravine, rare King Ferns grow luxuriantly and there’s an opportunity to see Aljon Falls and the Moss Garden.  Re-board the coach to return to our accommodation for dinner.

DAY 11  CARNARVON GORGE – ROMA      BMLD

Tuesday, 21st May:  Farewelling Carnarvon Gorge, we make our way to Arcadia Valley Escape.  Be guided through the ins and outs of the Cattle industry including a live demonstration in the cattle yards and watch the working dogs doing their thing!  Farewelling our hosts, continue on to Injune for lunch, then on to the Big Rig in Roma.  Stay Roma Explorers Inn     

DAY 12  ROMA – HOME      BM

Wednesday, 22nd May:  All too soon we are back in familiar territory with arrival in Brisbane mid-afternoon.  Northbound passengers stay on board for arrival in the Wide Bay early evening.
