15 Day Alpine Autumn Eggstravaganza

The tour everyone has been waiting for….experience the beautiful changing colours of autumn when the leaves on the trees create a magnificent spectacle.  This amazing tour is packed full of inclusions with some ‘off the beaten track’ exploring, quaint little villages, undulating hills, beautiful trees and stunning mountain views.  Visit Kiama, Kangaroo Valley and the beautiful coastal town of Eden, the Snowy Mountains and Canberra.  Of course all of this happens against a kaleidoscope of autumn colours:  nature’s palette of golds, reds, russets and siennas.  This is one tour you won’t want to miss! The journey is packed with highlights which will unfold as you read the full itinerary.

DAY 1  HERVEY BAY – GLEN INNES      LD

Friday, 19th April:  An early start for passengers joining between Hervey Bay and Caloundra.  Brisbane, Gold Coast and interstate passengers join at Brisbane Roma Street Transit Centre.  On arrival in Glen Innes, we visit the Australian Standing Stones, a national monument to honour all Celtic people who helped pioneer Australia.  Stay Rest Point Motor Inn  

DAY 2  GLEN INNES – MUSWELLBROOK      BMLD

Saturday, 20th April: Cameras at the ready today as we discover the delights of the New England area.  Our first stop is the historic Gostwyck Chapel built in 1921.  The site is a favourite for photographers, with its magnificent tree-lined avenue of 200 Elms which turn gold in the autumn months providing a perfect backdrop to the brilliant red of the Virginia Creeper covering the chapel.  Then, we head through Dungowan, passing the Chaffey Dam, to the quaint and pretty village of Nundle surrounded by undulating hills, beautiful trees and parks.  At the Nundle Woollen Mill enjoy lunch and a tour of one of the last spinning mills still operating in Australia before we continue on to Muswellbrook.  Stay Noahs Mid City Motor Inn     

DAY 3  MUSWELLBROOK – GOSFORD       BD

Sunday, 21st April:  Make our way to the Hunter Valley Gardens in the heart of the Hunter vineyards. Afterwards enjoy an afternoon of sampling the delights of the Hunter Valley region with a visit to Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop, the Small Winemakers Centre and of course the Twenty-3-Twenty Chocolate & Fudge Factory.  Stay Quality Inn the Willows  

DAY 4  GOSFORD – WOLLONGONG      BMLD

Monday, 22nd April: This morning we visit Palm Beach, the outdoor filming locations made famous in the TV show ‘Home and Away.’ Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the lower Hawkesbury River as we cruise to Bobbin Head in the Ku-Ring-Chase NP.  Enjoy lunch at the Bobbin Inn before farewelling the river to make our way along the Grand Pacific Drive over the Sea Cliff Bridge to our accommodation.  Two night stay Novotel Wollongong Northbeach      

DAY 5  WOLLONGONG SIGHTSEEING      BMLD

Tuesday, 23rd April:  Start our fabulous day of sightseeing today with a visit to Wollongong Botanic Gardens followed by a very scenic morning tea at the Mt Keira Lookout.  Next, an interesting drive through Port Kembla as we journey the magnificent drive through Macquarie Pass to Robertson where we pause for lunch.  After lunch, we visit the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk before returning to our accommodation.

DAY 6  WOLLONGONG – GOULBURN      BMD

Wednesday, 24th April: Another day of scenic splendour as we make our way to Kiama’s Blowhole Point with its magnificent view of the coastline.  Kiama Blowhole is the largest in the world and the spectacular plumes of water can spout 20 metres or more into the air.  Near the blowhole is the Kiama Lighthouse established in 1887.  Next, we visit the Berry Treat Factory at the Old Central Creamery; with hundreds of varieties of handcrafted chocolates, confectionaries and preserves.  After a busy morning, do you fancy a nice cup of tea?  Well now’s your chance with our delightful morning tea stop at the Berry Tea Shop, then on to beautiful Kangaroo Valley with free time to purchase lunch and explore before making our way to Fitzroy Falls then on to Goulburn.  Stay Comfort Inn Posthouse      

DAY 7  GOULBURN – EDEN      BMD

Thursday, 25th April: Leaving Goulburn make our way south to the National Trust town of Braidwood then on to Batemans Bay for morning tea.  Enjoy some free time in Tilba Tilba to purchase your lunch and explore this delightful town.   Continue via Bermagui and Tathra for a visit to the Eden Killer Whale Museum.  Stay Coachman’s Rest Motor Inn     

DAY 8  EDEN – COOMA      BMLD

Friday, 26th April: Only time will limit the many enjoyable places we will find along the way today as we make our way south to Cann River, then turn northward along the Monaro Highway through deep forests, fertile plains, mountains, historical villages and towns. Our morning tea stop is at the picturesque town of Bombala, then we continue on through Nimmitabel with its many National Trust buildings to Cooma for lunch. After lunch, an informative visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, a state-of-the-art visitor facility showcasing the amazing story of the Snowy Mountains Scheme.  Stay Snow Season Motor Inn     

DAY 9  COOMA – JINDABYNE      BMLD

Saturday, 27th April:  Leaving Cooma, we look forward to another day of scenic delights today as we explore the Snowy Mountain Region.  Our first stop is at Old Adaminaby and Lake Eucumbene, the first and largest of the dams comprising the Snowy Scheme. It was a critical component of the Scheme that was one of Australia’s greatest engineering achievements.  Next, make our way through the Mt Kosciuszko National Park to Kiandra, an abandoned gold mining town and the birthplace of Australian skiing to Cabramurra, the highest town in Australia. Continue along Snowridge Road past the Tumut Pond Reservoir and Jagumba to our lunch stop at Khancoban Alpine Inn.   After lunch, stop at Thredbo Village before making our way to Jindabyne to our accommodation on the shore of the beautiful Lake Jindabyne.  Stay Rydges Horizons     

DAY 10  JINDABYNE – CANBERRA      BMLD

Sunday, 28th April: A special treat this morning with a visit to Macenmist Black Truffles & Wine for morning tea, a presentation about truffles and to watch the truffle dogs demonstrate their ability.  Next, take a leap into outer space at the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.  The complex is part of the Deep Space Network run by NASA.  Complete our day with a visit to Telstra Tower for a 360° view of Canberra.  Two night stay Mercure Canberra     

DAY 11  CANBERRA SIGHTSEEING      BLD

Monday, 29th April:  This morning drive to Mt Ainslie Lookout for a panoramic view of Canberra.  Next, enjoy a cruise of Lake Burley Griffin with Southern Cross Cruises. Then on to Parliament House for a guided tour and lunch followed by some free time to explore the highlights of Parliament House.  No visit to Canberra would be complete without a visit to the Australian War Memorial which commemorates the sacrifice of Australians who have died in war.  Be farewelled with the moving Last Post Ceremony before departing.

DAY 12  CANBERRA – BATHURST      BMLD

Tuesday, 30th April: Leaving Canberra, it’s off to Cowra where we pause for morning tea and to ring the Peace Bell, then continue on to Bathurst for lunch and a guided tour of Abercrombie House, a National Trust listed 50 room mansion built in 1878. Next, a drive around the Mt Panorama circuit then finish with a visit to the National Motor Museum at Mt Panorama.  Stay Quality Inn Bathurst     

DAY 13 BATHURST – HEATHERBRAE       BMLD

Wednesday, 1st May: Today we make our way to the beautiful Blue Mountains NP.  Stop at Govett’s Leap for a spectacular panoramic view over the  Grose Valley.  Continue on to Katoomba for a photo stop of the magnificent Three Sisters at Echo Point before making our way to Penrith for lunch.   After lunch enjoy a visit to the Museum of Fire. Wander through the exhibits on fire safety and firefighting and the many historic fire engines.  Continue north along the Pacific Highway to our accommodation.  Stay Sir Francis Drake Motel     

DAY 14  HEATHERBRAE – GRAFTON      BMLD

Thursday, 2nd May:  Departing Heatherbrae, head north to Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries for a delicious morning tea and farm tour then on to the Slim Dusty Centre for lunch and time to explore the centre.  Continue along the Pacific Highway through Coffs Harbour to Grafton.  Stay Jacaranda Motor Lodge     

DAY 15  GRAFTON – HOME      BM

Friday, 3rd May: After an amazing autumn holiday it’s time to head home.  Stop at New Italy Museum & Cafe for morning tea, then continue north along the Pacific Highway.  Brisbane passengers depart at Roma Street and northbound passengers stay onboard for arrival into the Wide Bay early evening.
