This tour will definitely not disappoint!  Combining the Outback and the sea this amazing experience is especially designed for the adventure seeker!  Travelling through country that remains virtually unchanged since the adventures of Sturt, Burke & Wills and McKinlay.  Highlights include the isolated regions of Tibooburra, Innamincka and Marree.  At Cameron Corner stand where the three states meet.  Visit the iconic ‘Dig Tree’ where Burke & Wills tragically perished after returning from their expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria. Travel through Cordillo Downs Station to the frontier town of Birdsville.  Travel the awesome Birdsville Track to the infamous town of Marree then along the Oodnadatta Track to Coober Pedy.

Take a flight (optional) over Lake Eyre and the newly restored Marree Man. Have your cameras ready as we travel through the Painted Desert to Arckaringa Station. Enjoy lunch at the Pink Pub in Oodnadatta and a guided tour of Coober Pedy. Leaving the outback, explore the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.  Visit the many delights of Kangaroo Island and experience the awesome majesty of the Great Ocean Road. DAY 1 HERVEY BAY – MOREE          D

Friday, 16th June: An early start for passengers joining between Hervey Bay and Caloundra, Brisbane passengers join at Roma Street Transit Centre. Travel west to Toowoomba and then through Warwick to the border town of Goondiwindi for an afternoon break before arriving in Moree. Stay Burke & Wills Motor Inn.

DAY 2 MOREE – BOURKE           BLD

Saturday, 17th June: Travel along the Gwydir Highway through Walgett to Bourke for a picnic lunch. After lunch, visit the Back O’Bourke Exhibition Centre before recapturing the romance of the old river-steamers with a two hour cruise along the quiet waters of the Darling River aboard the PV Jandra Paddleboat. Stay Darling River Motel.

DAY 3 BOURKE – TIBOOBURRA           BLD

Sunday, 18th June: Leave the sealed roads behind today as we head west along the Bourke-Milparinka Road to Wanaaring where we pause for morning tea, then on to the Outdoor Pastoral Museum in Sturt National Park for a picnic lunch. The museum exhibits original and reconstructed artefacts that will help you piece together the life of a pastoral worker. It includes numerous examples of equipment used by pastoral properties in the 19th and early 20th century. Continue on to Tibooburra. Two night stay The Granites Motel.

DAY 4 TIBOOBURRA SIGHTSEEING           BLD

Monday, 19th June: Today is steeped in the history of the inland explorers who braved isolated and arid country to ‘open up’ these forbidding lands. At the ghost town of Milparinka discover a wealth of history dating back to the 1880’s when gold was first discovered. At Depot Glen see where Sturt was ‘holed up’ for six months under horrific conditions during his 1844 expedition to locate the supposed ‘inland sea’. Travel the Jump Up Loop Road and stand on the mesa tops for spectacular views before returning to our motel.

DAY 5 TIBOOBURRA – INNAMINCKA          BLD

Tuesday, 20th June: Today travel through the Sturt National Park and enjoy morning tea at Cameron Corner, where the borders of QLD, NSW and SA meet. Crossing red dunes to Merty Merty encounter the famous Strzelecki Track, first pioneered by cattle duffer Harry Redford. Stay Innamincka Hotel.

DAY 6 INNAMINCKA – BIRDSVILLE          BLD

Wednesday, 21st June: Visit the historical Dig Tree, famous from the Burke and Wills Expedition in 1860. Pause and reflect on the tragedy played out under the tree. Visit the World’s largest shearing shed at Cordillo Downs Station then continue on past the Cadelga Ruins. Cadelga’s history reflects the hardships encountered by pastoralists from isolation and drought following the initial take up of land in the region during the 1870’s. Turning left onto the Birdsville Development Road we make our way to Birdsville. Stay historic Birdsville Hotel.

DAY 7 BIRDSVILLE – MARREE           BLD

Thursday, 22nd June: Today we travel the iconic Birdsville Track. Stop at the Mungerannie Roadhouse for lunch and a wander over to check out the birdlife at the waterhole. Cross the Natterannie Sandhills, once a formidable object to the legendary Birdsville mailmen before arriving in Marree. Stay Maree Hotel.

DAY 8 MARREE – WILLIAM CREEK          BLD

Friday, 23rd June: Leaving Marree travel along the Oodnadatta Track to Lake Eyre South where we pause for morning tea and a stroll down to the lake, then on to William Creek for lunch at the hotel. This afternoon enjoy some free time. For a truly spectacular outback experience flights may be undertaken (own expense) for those passengers who wish to see Lake Eyre from the air. The following flight options are available:

FLIGHT OPTION 1:

I Hour Lake Eyre Flight $260 pp
The one hour flight will take you over Belt Bay, (lowest point in Australia) into Jackboot Bay and back to William Creek via Halligan Bay.

FLIGHT OPTION 2:

2 Hour Painted Hills & Lake Eyre $420 pp
This flight covers the one hour Lake Eyre Flight and then tracks across the Anna Creek Cattle Station into the Painted Hills.

DAY 9 WILLIAM CREEK – COOBER PEDY          BLD

Saturday, 24th June: This morning continue on to Oodnadatta for lunch at the iconic Pink Roadhouse. Get your cameras ready as we travel through the ancient Inland Sea bed that is the Painted Desert. The slopes and shapes include many different colours and shades of orange, yellow, white and deep red. Stop at Arckaringa Station for afternoon tea then continue on to Coober Pedy. Two night stay Desert Cave Hotel.

DAY 10 COOBER PEDY SIGHTSEEING          BD

Sunday, 25th June: Start our day with a guided tour of Coober Pedy. At the conclusion of our tour visit the Umoona Opal Mine to discover how opal is formed and to visit the underground jewellery shop. This afternoon enjoy some free time to purchase lunch and explore.

DAY 11 COOBER PEDY – PORT PIRIE          BLD

Monday, 26th June: Travelling down the Stuart Highway stop at Glendambo Hotel for morning tea. Stop at Lake Hart, then on to Woomera Rocket Park for a picnic lunch before continuing on to Port Pirie. Stay John Pirie Motor Inn.

DAY 12 PORT PIRIE – ADELAIDE          BD

Tuesday, 27th June: Travelling via the beautiful Clare and Barossa Valleys make our way to Jacob’s Creek Winery for a guided tour, morning tea and wine tasting. Continuing on to the Barossa Reservoir to experience the acoustic attraction, the Whispering Wall. Words spoken in a whisper can be heard clearly at the other side of the wall approximately 140 metres away. Next, free time in the quaint German village of Hahndorf for you to purchase your lunch and explore. After lunch make our way to Mt Lofty for an awesome view of Adelaide before making our way to our motel. Stay Adelaide Inn.

DAY 13 ADELAIDE – KANGAROO ISLAND          BLD

Wednesday, 28th June: An early start this morning as we make our way to Cape Jervis for our ferry ride to Kangaroo Island. On arrival in Penneshaw board our coach for our Kangaroo Island Experience Day Tour. Stay Kangaroo Island Lodge.

DAY 14 KANGAROO IS – VICTOR HARBOR          BD

Thursday, 29th June: Farewelling Kangaroo Island board our return ferry to the mainland and make our way to Victor Harbor where your coach crew will provide you with a delicious morning tea. Next, provided with your tickets for the Horse Drawn Tram and SA Whale Museum, enjoy some free time to explore at your leisure. After lunch, reboard your coach for a sightseeing tour to Goolwa and the Goolwa Wharf Precinct. Stay Apollon Motor Inn.

DAY 15 VICTOR HARBOR – MT GAMBIER          BLD

Friday, 30th June: Departing Victor Harbor make our way to Murray Bridge where we pause for morning tea. Continue on to Keith for lunch then on to Mt Gambier to view the Blue Lake and the Cave Gardens before settling in to our motel. Stay Comfort Inn Silver Birch.

DAY 16 MT GAMBIER – APOLLO BAY          BD

Saturday, 1st July: A great day ahead following the Princes Highway across the border into Victoria. Enjoy some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world as we explore the ‘Shipwreck Coast’, heading east along the Great Ocean Road. See the Grotto, London Bridge (now collapsed) and the Arch before arriving in Port Campbell where we visit the Twelve Apostles Visitors Centre. This afternoon continue our journey along the Great Ocean Road past Sentinel Rock to Loch Ard Gorge and marvel at the wind and surf swept grandeur of the Twelve Apostles. See Apollo Bay, then into the Skenes Creek Lodge Motel, overlooking the ocean.

DAY 17 APOLLO BAY – ECHUCA          BD

Sunday, 2nd July: Travel to Ballarat via the Otway Ranges and Colac. Enjoy some free time at Sovereign Hill, an historical village depicting Ballarat’s first ten years after the discovery of gold there in 1851. Settle in to our motel before our Murray River Paddle Steamer Dinner Cruise. Stay Philadelphia Motor Inn.

DAY 18 ECHUCA – PARKES          BLD

Monday, 3rd July: Head along the Newell Highway to Jerilderie for morning tea then continue on to West Wyalong for lunch. At Forbes visit McFeeters Motor Museum with their collection of veteran, vintage, classic, street rods and custom cars. Stay Country Comfort Parkes.

DAY 19 PARKES – GLEN INNES          BD

Tuesday, 4th July: Travel north to Mendooran for morning tea. Take a leisurely drive through the village while gazing at the large murals throughout the township. After a lunch break at Narrabri continue on via Inverell to Glen Innes. Stay Rest Point Motor Inn.

DAY 20 GLEN INNES – HOME          B

Wednesday, 5th July: A short visit to the Australian Standing Stones is in order this morning before departing Glen Innes to continue on crossing over the border into Queensland. Stop at Vincenzos at the Big Apple for morning tea then on to Toowoomba for lunch. After lunch continue on to Roma Street Transit Centre where we farewell our Brisbane passengers. Northbound passengers arrive in the Wide Bay early evening.
