Saturday, 17th August: Our first visit this morning is to the new Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton then enjoy the outback hospitality at the Middleton Hotel where we stop for lunch. Sunday, 18th August: Travel the Plenty Highway through a diversity of scenery from the Harts Range to large station properties. The scenery is dramatic and gives a perfect glimpse of Australia’s ‘wild heart’. Arrive in Alice Springs early evening. Two night stay Aurora Alice Springs

Monday, 19th August: A delightful day of sightseeing today beginning with a drive up Anzac Hill for an overview of ‘The Alice’, then on to the Old Telegraph Station for morning tea and a guided tour. Next, visit the Alice Springs Desert Park for some free time to explore. Tonight experience the ‘Spirit of the Outback’ dinner & show at the Earth Sanctuary. Return to our motel.

Wednesday, 21st August: At Kings Canyon walk the Rim Walk to see the stunning views over the valley or alternatively, stroll along the canyon floor beside Kings Creek to capture breathtaking views. DAY 8 ULURU & KATA TJUTA NP BMD
Thursday, 22nd August: A fabulous day of sightseeing today as we make our way to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) where you will have time to explore before returning to the Cultural Centre for lunch (own expense). This afternoon, tour the base caves of Uluru, see ancient Aboriginal rock painting and picturesque waterholes. Late afternoon stop at the sunset viewing area at Uluru to enjoy refreshments while we watch the fascinating colour changes of Uluru at sunset.
DAY 9 YULARA – WARBURTON BMLD
Friday, 23rd August: A final view of Uluru and Kata Tjuta as we continue along the Outback Way which links Winton in Queensland with Alice Springs and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. Travel along the Great Central Road which is part of a network of roads built under the leadership of the famous surveyor, the late Len Beadell, to service Woomera and the Giles Weather Station. Stop at Lassiter’s Cave for morning tea followed by lunch at Warakurna. After lunch, visit Giles Weather Station then continue on to Warburton. Stay Warburton Roadhouse.

DAY 10 WARBURTON – LAVERTON BMLD
Saturday, 24th August: Our journey continues along the Great Central Road, crossing our final time zone today. Stop for morning tea at the Tjukayirla Roadhouse (pronounced ‘Chook-a-year-la). Enjoy a picnic lunch ‘a la outback’ before arriving at Laverton, a town with a 100 year fascinating gold rush history. Laverton sits on the western edge of the Great Victoria Desert which was once known as the ‘wildest town in the west’. Stay Laverton Caravan Park & Desert Inn Hotel.
DAY 11 LAVERTON – KALGOORLIE BMLD
Sunday, 25th August: Gwalia Ghost Town and Museum is our morning tea stop this morning. Once one of the largest gold mines in Australia, its first mine manager was a young American mining engineer named Herbert Hoover, who later became the 31st President of the United States. Continue on to Menzies where we pause for lunch, then on to Lake Ballard, a salt lake with its surreal landscape where the metal statuettes of 51 residents of an outback town inhabit ten square kilometres of a shimmering salt lake, enticing both the eye and the feet. Armed with hat, sunscreen and water, it’s off adventuring we go, to view as many statuettes as we can in the time allotted to us. DAY 12 KALGOORLIE SIGHTSEEING BD
Monday, 26th August: Throw on a high visibility vest and safety glasses this morning as we experience a tour of Australia’s largest gold producing mine, the Super Pit. View the mining and milling operations through the Fimiston Milling Plant from the safety of the Mine-Spec Bus (air-conditioned). Be amazed by the size of the 793 dump trucks as we travel along the haul roads on site with the trucks. The view of the Super Pit from Harvey Hut will take your breath away as you see the old miner’s workings with old shafts and view the modern mining machinery working in the pit. Following our tour enjoy some free time in town to purchase your lunch then back onboard for our Gold Discovery Town Tour where our guide will uncover the hidden secrets of Kalgoorlie-Boulder past and present.

Tuesday, 27th August: Farewelling Kalgoorlie, make our way to Coolgardie which retains many of the magnificent buildings associated with its rich and colourful past. Saturday, 31st August: Departing Perth arrive at Busselton Jetty, the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Enjoy a train ride to the end of the jetty for a guided tour of the Underwater Observatory. Leaving Busselton, make our way to Canal Rocks for spectacular seascape views across the Indian Ocean, then on to Margaret River Chocolate Company to tantalise the taste buds. Sunday, 1st September: Travel to Hamlin Bay this morning for a photo stop and a chance to interact with the stingrays if they are about. On to Jewel Cave for morning tea and a guided tour of this magnificent cave. Next, enjoy a guided tour of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Cape Leeuwin is one of only two places in the world where two great oceans meet. Monday, 2nd September: Leaving Pemberton, travel to the Valley of the Giants. Walk along the Treetop Walk taking you through spectacular Tingle trees, 40 metres above the forest floor. After lunch at the Denmark Tavern continue on to Albany where we visit the Torndirrup NP to capture breathtaking coastal formations including the ‘Blowholes’, ‘Natural Bridge’ and ‘The Gap’, a huge granite bridge-like suspension. Tuesday, 3rd September: The rugged beauty of the Stirling Ranges NP awaits us as we journey northward through the botanic reserve abounding with wildflowers. Friday, 6th September: Begin our day with some sightseeing at the Kalbarri NP. Stop at Hawk’s Head Lookout for a spectacular view of the Murchison River Gorge. Continue on to World Heritage-listed Shark Bay where we pause for lunch at the Hamelin Pool Tearooms followed by a visit to the Stromatolites, the world’s oldest living organisms. Next, visit Shell Beach, one of only two such places in the world, formed from billions of shells up to ten metres deep. Travel through Denham to arrive at our destination. On our way to Mullewa, visit some of the 22 various art installations en route, each depicting farm life, wildflowers and Aboriginal culture. Leaving Mullewa, make our way to Coalseam Conservation Park before rejoining the Art Drive.

A special treat tonight at the Barna Mia Wildlife Experience at Dryandra. Barna Mia is a predator-proof animal sanctuary where you will discover threatened native marsupials in a natural setting. Saturday, 14th September: Get ready for some of Australia’s most spectacular scenery today as we travel to Cape Le Grande NP. The ocean here is practically transparent; the local eastern grey ‘roos are regularly seen sunbaking on the beach and the sand at Lucky Bay has twice been judged Australia’s whitest. Next, it’s Thistle Cove to hear the Whistling Rock. Finish off at Hellfire Bay before retracing our steps to Esperance Stonehenge and if time allows some sightseeing around Esperance.

Sunday, 15th September: This morning take a sightseeing drive along Great Ocean Drive from West Beach to the magnificent Twilight Cove and the Pink Lake Lookout. Our morning tea stop is at the Section Glass Gallery & Cafe, see the kiln-fired glasswork, stunning designer glass jewellery, bespoke & conceptual glass objects and sculptures. Next a visit to the Esperance Museum for a glimpse of local history, a space station, maritime exhibits, vintage machinery & old railway cars. Monday, 16th September: Venture across the Nullarbor Plain. Our journey eastward to Border Village takes us through Balledonia, made famous when NASA’s Skylab debris showered the town in 1979 and Cocklebiddy. Tuesday, 17th September: At the Head of Bight Whale Watch Interpretive Centre follow a cliff-top boardwalk to a whale viewing platform from where migrating whales may be seen.
