The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is an annual hot air balloon festival that takes place at the lawns of the old Parliament House in Canberra. Each year approximately 50 hot air balloons launch daily at dawn and float over Canberra. As well as the beauty of seeing the balloons hover over the city at once, another highlight are the novelty hot air balloons. So, keep your eyes to the skies at this special event. Other highlights to enjoy include Parliament House, Anzac Parade Memorial Walk, Cockington Green Miniature Gardens, the Australian War Memorial and on our homeward journey a fabulous lunch cruise on beautiful Darling Harbour, Sydney. You are sure to delight in the many exceptional sightseeing activities in store for you on this amazing tour.

DAY 1 HERVEY BAY – GOONDIWINDI D
Sunday, 10th March: An early start for passengers joining between Hervey Bay and Caloundra. Brisbane and Gold Coast passengers board at Roma Street Transit Centre. Travel west to Toowoomba for lunch, then on to the border town of Goondiwindi. Stay Ascot Lodge Motor Inn
DAY 2 GOONDIWINDI – DUBBO BMLD
Monday, 11th March: Leaving Goondiwindi turn right onto the Newell Highway at the Wobbly Boot Hotel in Boggabilla. Enjoy a delicious lunch and pottery demonstration at Pillaga Pottery then arrive in Dubbo. Two night stay Golden West Motor Inn
DAY 3 DUBBO SIGHTSEEING BMLD
Tuesday, 12th March: Start our day with a two hour guided tour of Taronga Western Plains Zoo. After lunch, explore Old Dubbo Gaol and gain an in-depth insight into the penal system of the 1800’s before moving on to the Western Plains Cultural Centre for a ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour and free time to admire the art gallery.
DAY 4 DUBBO – CANBERRA BMLD
Wednesday, 13th March: Today take the Mitchell Highway south, passing the interesting Wellington Gateway Sculpture. See colourful Orange nestled in the shadow of Mount Canobolas. Stop for a visit at the Age of Fishes Museum in Canowindra. Next, venture into the delightful and fascinating display of meticulously handcrafted miniature buildings from around the world at Cockington Green before making our way to our accommodation. DAY 5 CANBERRA BALLOON FESTIVAL BLD
Thursday, 14th March: Every year in the Autumn hot air balloonists from all around the country launch into the skies of Canberra for the annual Balloon Spectacular. This mesmerising view is best appreciated from the lawns of Old Parliament House or take a hot air balloon flight (own expense). Remember to keep an eye out for the special shaped balloons. It’s a great way to start your Canberra day. After some free time make our way to Parliament House for a guided tour followed by lunch. After lunch drive by Canberra’s Embassies and High Commissions before a stop at the Anzac Parade Memorial Walk. This emotional 2.5km walk passes Memorials honouring Australians and New Zealanders who have died in wartime conflict. Finish our day with a visit to the Australian War Memorial featuring many emotion stirring displays and tributes. After the closing ceremony return to our motel.
Optional Balloon Flights are booked in advance and payment is required with your deposit. Cost: $310.50 per person
Flight duration is 45 minutes to one hour and is scheduled for 5.45am. Flight bookings cannot be guaranteed if booking after 18th January 2019 due to flight demand.
NB: Flights may be cancelled up to 72 hrs prior to your flight. After this time they become non-refundable. A $50 cancellation fee is required if cancelled between 72 hrs and 7 days prior to flight.
Hot air balloon rides are subject to the weather and are fully refundable if the flight is cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
DAY 6 CANBERRA – WOLLONGONG BLD
Friday, 15th March: Leaving Canberra travel to Goulburn with its lovingly preserved architecture for a guided tour. Enjoy morning tea at the Goulburn Bakery (own expense) before continuing on to Robertson where we pause for lunch at the hotel. After lunch, enjoy some sightseeing through Port Kembla stopping at Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse and enjoy the magnificent view from Mt Keira Lookout. Stay Novotel Wollongong Northbeach
DAY 7 WOLLONGONG – GOSFORD BLD
Saturday, 16th March: This morning we make our way to the Sydney Opera House for an interesting guided tour. After our tour, your coach captain will take you for a sightseeing tour before boarding the MV Sydney 2000 for a delicious buffet lunch cruise on the harbour. After your cruise enjoy some free time at Darling Harbour before making our way to Gosford. Stay Quality Hotel the Willows
DAY 8 GOSFORD – COFFS HARBOUR BMLD
Sunday, 17th March: Today join the Pacific Highway to travel through Raymond Terrace then through the picturesque Macleay Valley to Kempsey for lunch and a guided tour at the Slim Dusty Centre. After lunch continue on to Coffs Harbour. Stay Best Western Zebra Motel
DAY 9 COFFS HARBOUR – HOME BML
Monday, 18th March: After nine days filled with a variety of marvellous highlights we head home to Queensland for a lunch cruise on the Gold Coast waterways. Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to some of our new found friends with arrival in Brisbane mid-afternoon and Wide Bay early evening.
