DAY 1 HERVEY BAY – GLEN INNES LD
Saturday, 10th November: An early start for passengers joining between Hervey Bay and Caloundra. Brisbane, Gold Coast and interstate passengers join at Brisbane Roma Street Transit Centre. After lunch at heritage listed CRITERION HOTEL in Warwick, continue down the New England Highway crossing into New South Wales. On arrival in Glen Innes we visit the AUSTRALIAN STANDING STONES, a national monument to honour all Celtic people who helped pioneer Australia. Stay Rest Point Motor Inn.
DAY 2 GLEN INNES – MONKERAI BLD
Sunday, 11th November: Travel the spectacular Thunderbolts Way to Gloucester for lunch. After lunch, visit the GLOUCESTER MUSEUM, before continuing on to Riverwood Downs Mountain Resort, a magnificent, multi award winning 750 acre property in the foothills of the Barrington Tops National Park. On arrival, enjoy a delicious afternoon tea overlooking the beautiful gardens followed by a guided tour of the gardens and resort. Two night stay Riverwood Downs Mountain Resort.
DAY 3 KARUAH VALLEY SIGHTSEEING BLD
Monday, 12th November: Get ready for a delightful day of sightseeing today as we make our way through the town of Dungog with its historic buildings to BUNNA BUNOO OLIVE GROVE for a delicious morning tea followed by a tour of the olive grove. Continue our day with a visit to TOCAL HOMESTEAD for lunch and a tour of the Homestead. Tocal has one of Australia’s finest collections of colonial farm buildings dating from the 1830’s. Return to Monkerai via Stroud.
DAY 4 MONKERAI – FORSTER BLD
Tuesday, 13th November: A leisurely start this morning before an unforgetable WHALE WATCHING CRUISE with Amaroo Cruises. Enjoy the calm waters of Wallis Lake cruising among the islands and the wonderful world of the majestic Humpback Whales. After lunch at Club Forster sit back in air-conditioned comfort as we explore the Great Lakes region. Travel over Wallis Lake Estuary to Tuncurry Beach then back to Forster for great views of the breakwall that protects Cape Hawke Harbour and Bennetts Head Lookout. Travel along exquisite Seven Mile Beach past Pacific Palms. Just north of Sandbar at Cellito, stroll the boardwalk through the rainforest to the beach. Continue on past Smiths Lake for stunning views from Seal Rocks. Two night stay Island Palms Motor Inn.
DAY 5 FORSTER-TUNCURRY SIGHTSEEING BLD
Wednesday, 14th November: Travel to Nabiac to visit the NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM; with over 800 motorcycles on display the museum is Australia’s largest collection of vintage, veteran, and classic motorcycles. Enjoy a delicious BBQ feast and wine tasting at GREAT LAKES PADDOCKS. Nestled in the stunning hinterland of the Great Lakes region, it is a magical setting for a relaxing meal. Returning to Forster, delight in a guided tour of ELKINS OYSTERS and experience the taste sensation of prime quality oysters from the pristine waters of the Great Lakes. Next, call into the largest working craft centre in New South Wales, FORSTER ARTS AND CRAFTS – browse the extensive range and admire the handiwork of the craftspeople of the Great Lakes Region.
DAY 6 FORSTER – WINGHAM BLD
Thursday, 15th November: Farewelling Forster, make our way to the historic town of Wingham for morning tea. Enjoy a gentle walk along the boardwalk at the WINGHAM BRUSH NATURE RESERVE, a rare pocket of subtropical lowland rainforest and home and breeding sanctuary of the grey headed flying fox. Next, a MANNING VALLEY RIVER CRUISE aboard the “Island Explorer”. Be treated to an informative commentary along the way. The magnificent Manning River is one of only three true deltas in the world. It is over 260 kms in length with over 150 km of navigable water. Disembark at 1.30pm for a sightseeing tour north where you will visit the beautiful sleepy seaside townships of Harrington and Crowdy Head. Two places of interest today are the PILOT HEAD LOOKOUT at Harrington, where you can see where the north arm of the mighty Manning River meets the ocean and CROWDY HEAD LIGHTHOUSE. Both locations offer us stunningly spectacular views and will no doubt excite the photographer within. Two night stay Golf Club Motor Inn.
DAY 7 MANNING VALLEY SIGHTSEEING BLD
Friday, 16th November: Travelling northward, make our way to LORNE VALLEY MACADAMIA NUT FARM for a delicious morning tea and an informative talk on growing and harvesting macadamia nuts. Then, on to TIMBER TOWN HERITAGE PARK, voted as one of Australia’s finest heritage parks. Ride the steam train, experience the bullocky display, observe the timber craftsmen at work and smell the coals of the blacksmith. An old fashioned “cook-up” lunch will be served. Our return journey includes a sightseeing tour through PORT MACQUARIE, BONNIE HILLS and CATHIE before turning inland to LAURIETON. Ascend to NORTH BROTHER LOOKOUT where you will be spellbound by the magnificent views overlooking the waterways leading out to sea. Rejoin the Pacific Highway at Kew.
DAY 8 WINGHAM – GRAFTON BD
Saturday, 17th November: Travel the Pacific Highway through the picturesque Macleay Valley to Kempsey for morning tea at the SLIM DUSTY CENTRE, then continue on to Coffs Harbour for lunch and free time at the CLOG BARN before continuing on to Grafton. Stay Jacaranda Motor Lodge.
DAY 9 GRAFTON – HOME BL
Sunday, 18th November: All too soon our holiday is almost over. Our morning tea stop this morning is at the BALLINA INFORMATION CENTRE, followed by a guided tour of the BALLINA MARITIME MUSEUM. Next, a plantation safari and lunch at TROPICAL FRUIT WORLD. After lunch, continue on to arrive in Brisbane mid afternoon and Wide Bay early evening.
