Monday, 25th September: An early start for passengers joining between Hervey Bay and Caloundra, Brisbane passengers join at Roma Street Transit Centre. Travel west to Toowoomba and then through Warwick to the border town of Goondiwindi for an afternoon break before arriving in Moree. Stay Burke & Wills Motor Inn.
DAY 2 MOREE – DUBBO BLD
Tuesday, 26th September: Continue south down the Newell Highway to Coonabarabran for morning tea and a visit to Crystal Kingdom, home to one of the world’s most unique mineral collections, the ‘Minerals of the Warrumbungles’. Moving on, stop at Mendooran for lunch and to view the town murals. Onto Dubbo for the night. Stay Golden West Motor Inn.
DAY 3 DUBBO – CANBERRA BLD
Wednesday, 27th September: Today take the Mitchell Highway south, passing the interesting Wellington Gateway Sculpture. See colourful Orange nestled in the shadow of Mount Canobolas. Stop for a visit at the Age of Fishes Museum in Canowindra, then on to Cowra to enjoy lunch and a wander through the beautiful Japanese Gardens. Next, journey towards our Nation’s Capital Canberra, to begin our sightseeing. Visit the Black Mountain Tower to experience the amazing view. Four night stay Quality Hotel Dickson.
DAY 4 CANBERRA SIGHTSEEING BD
Thursday, 28th September: Start our day with Southern Cross Cruises’ Government House Cruise. This delightful cruise includes a guided walk through the gardens of Government House. After lunch at the Southern Cross Yacht Club make our way to Parliament House for an informative guided tour then on to the Royal Australian Mint to see how our coins are made.
DAY 5 CANBERRA SIGHTSEEING BD
Friday, 29th September: This morning we visit the National Zoo and Aquarium for a unique and exciting guided tour of the zoo. Get up close and personal with native and exotic animals, and for a lucky few, hand feed a tiger, giraffe or perhaps an otter. Next, Canberra Floriade, Australia’s celebration of spring with its mass of colourful bulbs. Finish our day with a visit to the Australian War Memorial featuring many emotion stirring displays and tributes. Return to our motel after the closing ceremony.
DAY 6 CANBERRA SIGHTSEEING BD
Saturday, 30th September: Another great day of sightseeing today starting with a tour of Canberra’s Embassies and High Commissions then on to the miniature garden village of Cockington Green before moving on for a chance to relax and soak up the ambience at Tulip Top Gardens, a private garden which is only open to the public at Floriade time. Next, visit the National Museum then on to the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.
DAY 7 CANBERRA – GOSFORD BLD
Sunday, 1st October: Leaving Canberra, head to Bungendore to visit the Bungendore Woodworks Gallery with its magnificent handmade exhibits. Enjoy some free time here to explore this delightful town before making our way to Bowral for a picnic lunch in Corbett Gardens. After lunch, continue on to Gosford. Stay Quality Inn The Willows.
DAY 8 GOSFORD – COFFS HARBOUR BLD
Monday, 2nd October: Today join the Pacific Highway to travel through Raymond Terrace then through the picturesque Macleay Valley to Kempsey for lunch at the Slim Dusty Centre. After lunch continue on to Coffs Harbour. Stay Comfort Inn The Big Windmill.
DAY 9 COFFS HARBOUR – HOME BL
Tuesday, 3rd October: After nine days filled with a variety of marvelous highlights and springtime sightseeing, enjoy the last day of our holiday with a leisurely drive to Ballina Information Centre where we stop for morning tea, followed by a visit to the Ballina Maritime Museum. Continue on with arrival in Brisbane mid-afternoon and Wide Bay early evening.
