DAY 1    BRISBANE – 1770       D

Thursday, 19th May:  Depart Brisbane Coach Terminal, travel north on the Bruce Highway.  After a lunch stop in the Heritage City of Maryborough (own expense), continue our journey to the township of 1770, site of James Cook’s historic landing on 24th May 1770.  Located along a magical, sun-drenched stretch of sub-tropical surf coastline between Bundaberg and Gladstone, and nestled amongst five national parks, the dual township 1770/Agnes Water is also the closest access point to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.  This unique setting is regarded as the eco-tourism jewel of Queensland and the sub-tropical coastline.  Settle in at our 4½ star resort.  Three night stay Lagoons 1770 Resort

Friday, 20th May:  You will love our full day tour on the fabulous LARC, a cross between a four-wheel-drive bus and a boat!  Our journey takes us across tidal creeks, along Eurimbula National Park to historic Bustard Head Light Station for some of the most spectacular panoramic views in Australia.  Experienced guides will amaze you with tales of tragedy and triumph as early settlers and lighthouse keepers struggled to tame this remote wilderness.  This unique experience includes morning tea and lunch with billy tea.  We may be lucky enough to see sea eagles, kangaroos, dolphins or turtles.  Finish the day with the Captain Cook re-enactment.

Saturday, 21st May:  A free day today to enjoy the 1770 Captain Cook Commemorative Festival.  The Festival day begins with a colourful street parade of highly decorated floats.  The parade starts at 9 am at the 1770 Marina and winds its way along the foreshores to the parklands near the 1770 Camping Grounds.  Enjoy the market stalls, main stage entertainment, and the re-enactment of Captain Cook’s landing on the 1770 foreshore, heralding the birthplace of Queensland.

Sunday, 22nd May:  Farewelling the beautiful 1770/Agnes Water, make our way to the sugar town of Bundaberg for morning tea at Alexander Park.  After morning tea, wander through the park zoo before our visit to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery for a distillery tour and browse through the museum.  Next, lunch at Cafe 1928 before our Hinkler House & Hall Of Aviation Cockpit Tour.  Finish our day with a wander through the Botanic Gardens.  Stay Bundaberg International Motor Inn

DAY 5  BUNDABERG – BRISBANE               B

Monday, 23rd May:  After a hearty breakfast, make our way to Apple Tree Creek for a visit to the Flying High Bird Sanctuary, the largest free-flight aviary in Australia which has over 2000 birds.  As you walk up through the aviary you’ll have a chat with some pretty cocky cockatoos, galahs, and macaws.  They are absolutely delightful and have a wonderful vocabulary.  Enjoy interacting with some very nosey little parrots who just love to sit on your shoulder and check you out.  Leaving this delightful place enjoy some free time to purchase morning tea in the charming town of Childers.  Arriving in Maryborough mid-afternoon and Brisbane early evening.
