7 Day Brigadoon Festival at Bundanoon

The annual Highland Gathering Festival is where Bundanoon becomes Brigadoon for a day.  Brigadoon begins with the sound of Bagpipes drifting across the village from first light in preparation for a day of celebration.  See the Grand Parade of Pipe Bands, Scottish dancing, Highland Games, Caber tossing and marching clans.  After our Scottish interlude enjoy the autumn splendour of the Southern Highlands!  Explore the charming village of Berrima and its historic courthouse.  We invite you to join us for this special holiday.

DAY 1    HERVEY BAY – ARMIDALE             D

Wednesday, 30th March:  Welcome aboard!  Passengers from the Wide Bay to Brisbane join en-route.  Brisbane and Gold Coast passengers join us at Brisbane Coach Terminal.  Travel through the Granite Belt to Warwick for lunch (own expense) then cross the border into the New England Plateau town of Tenterfield for an afternoon break.  Continue via Glen Innes and Guyra before arriving in Armidale.  Stay Deer Park Motor Inn

DAY 2    ARMIDALE – BATHURST                 BMLD

Thursday, 31st March:  Travel through the Liverpool Plains this morning to the small town of Werris Creek where we pause for morning tea.  Continue south for a picnic lunch at Coolah, one of the many homes of the legendary Black Stump, then on to the 19th-century gold rush town of Gulgong for a visit to the award-winning Gulgong Pioneer Museum.  The afternoon’s journey continues south through the picturesque historic gold mining village of Sofala.  A short run to the historic town of Bathurst, one of the oldest inland settlements in Australia.  Stay Quality Hotel Bathurst

DAY 3    BATHURST – GOULBURN              BMLD

Friday, 1st April:  Take a drive around the Mt Panorama Racing Circuit this morning before a visit to the National Motor Racing Museum to view their fabulous display and immerse yourself in the history of Australian Motor Sport.  Lunch is at the historic Taralga Hotel established in 1876 and afterwards enjoy some free time to explore this largely unchanged village with its amazing stone architecture.  Taralga was originally planned as a private village for the Macarthur family and their employees, where they helped pioneer the Australian wool industry.  Two night stay Posthouse Motel


Saturday, 2nd April:  Today, don the tartans and join in the spectacular Annual Highland Gathering in Bundanoon.  ‘Brigadoon’ begins with the sound of Bagpipes drifting across the village from first light in preparation for a day of celebration.  The activities start with a Grand Parade featuring pipe bands, floats, and marching clans.  There is a large variety of stalls plus Scottish dancing, Highland games, Caber tossing, and the stirring nature of individual and massed Pipe Bands.  After a magical day return to Goulburn.

DAY 5    GOULBURN – GOSFORD                 BMD

Sunday, 3rd April:  Today enjoy the autumn splendour of the Southern Highlands; historic Berrima, beautiful Bowral, and marvellous Mittagong.  In the charming village of Berrima enjoy a guided tour of the Berrima Courthouse and stroll the quaint streets famous for craft shops, antiques, galleries, eateries and so much more.  Onto Bowral, originally a popular summer retreat for wealthy Sydney residents, who left a legacy of stately mansions and beautiful gardens.  Of special interest is the International Cricket Hall of Fame where we pause for lunch (own expense).  Next, make our way through Mittagong, surrounded by lush hillsides and waterfalls to re-join the highway and continue our journey to Gosford.  Stay Gosford Resort


Monday, 4th April: Continuing along the Pacific Highway we stop at the sleepy village of Bulahdelah for morning tea, then continue north to Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries where we pause for lunch.  While there perhaps pick yourself a bucket of delicious strawberries or browse the gift shop for a selection of delicious homemade products.  Our next stop is the Clog Barn where you can explore the delightful miniature Dutch village and working railway.  Browse the magnificent display of cuckoo clocks and other souvenirs before making our way to our home for the night.  Stay Opal Cove Resort

DAY 7    COFFS HARBOUR – HOME            B

Tuesday, 5th April:  Farewelling our hosts travel to Ballina for a lunch stop at Macadamia Castle (own expense), then back into Queensland and on to Brisbane where our Brisbane friends leave us.  Travel northbound with arrival early evening on the Fraser Coast after a wonderful seven day scenic holiday.
